World Geography: Section [1]

Mrs. Jaeger

Slums the living of the poor, the homes of those who live in slums because it is “economic.” a slum is a

over crowded urban area, ran by poor people. Effects that slums have towards human populations, are

people who live in slums have health problems, people from cities move to slums when money problems

occur, and many people die from diseases due to lack of medical care. One effect that slums put on

population in the world is the health problems.

The existence of slums affect human populations around the world because people will have health

problems increase. “The houses are made of mud and they’re very crowded. And the slum is very dirty, you

can see.” The meaning of the quote is that the slums are full of very highly contains germs because of the dirty

water being added to dirt in which it has been around bags of the people’s own disposal [#2], and trash all

around the area. People in slums live in their own trash, and get sick and the sickness is transferred to others.

Secondly the other effect that slums put in population is the moving of people who live in cities move to slums

due to money problems.

Another effect the existence of slums have put on population around the world is city people move to slums

because of money problems. “Slums life is cheap.” The quote is given to the reader because it explains that

those with money problems move to slums, not because the smell of the trash, of the land, but because of the

saving of money. People from cities don’t know that it will cost money, if disease get to the city people a

doctor is going to be needed, and a treatment is going to be recommended, plus medications, equals money.

The existence of slums just does not effect health problems, city people movement, but also many people die

to the lack of medical care.

Last effect that the existence of slums put on human populations is the lack of medical care make people

die from disease. “Indian state healthcare was supposed to be opened to all and supply both rich and poor

with the necessary healthcare, but to date they have failed to do that. They have not been out to reach the

slum areas and get them the healthcare they deserve. Sometimes, people in the slum get sick and start to

develop symptoms that later on turn out to be a mortal disease…” The quote given explains that government

from cities where the slums are located say “healthcare is open for rich or poor..”, but they never do enough

to give the people from slums that healthcare, so that leads to people to get very risky disease, and those who

get those disease die.

In conclusion this creates the idea of what the terribly life living of a poor slum person that only live in a

slum to earn some cash, or can not survive in cities where everything is “uneconomical.” People who live in

slums have health problems, people from cities move to slums when money problems occur, and many people

die from diseases due to lack of medical care, is what the existence of the slums effect on world population.
